Antony House Gates, Torpoint
Wrought iron gates at Antony House, a National Trust property in Cornwall, were showing signs of serious corrosion in joints and at low level. The gates were dismantled and brought to our workshop for repairs and repainting.
A condition survey was undertaken after cleaning and conservation principles, such as not replacing sections unless they were wasted by more than 50%, were followed. We produced a schedule of work and agreed it with the Trust before any repairs began.
Joints were then stripped, cleaned of corrosion and reassembled with new collars as necessary. Traditional blacksmithing techniques were used throughout.
A modern paint system was applied in the workshop and gilding was undertaken by our own staff.
The work was grant aided by The Ironmongers’ Company.
