Ladies Waiting Room, Shrub Hill Station, Worcester

The Ladies Waiting Room at Shrub Hill has a cast-iron facade which was manufactured by the Vulcan Iron Works, also in Worcester, circa 1880. The exterior is decorated with classical pilasters and clad with ceramic tiles by Maw and Company of Broseley.

Sections of the cast iron cornice had been removed when a platform canopy was added. The GdII* listed structure was placed on the English Heritage “Buildings At Risk Register” in 2003.

We manufactured and installed replica cast iron cornice sections and ties into brickwork were renewed throughout. A modern tubular kick rail along the elevation was replaced with a more appropriate design (supports in cast iron, rail in solid steel).
