Private House, New Brighton
We were asked to refurbish a pair of cast iron gates and railings around the front of a private house.
Our survey revealed areas of significant corrosion, particularly in areas where steel had been introduced in the past to modify the layout of the cast iron railings. The marine environment and related salts had been washed into areas where the paint had failed causing widespread rusting in joints. The railings had been regularly looked after with numerous paint applications and a great deal of the detail had been lost behind. It was decided that the gate would be best restored off site where breaks and missing iron castings could be replaced in a controlled environment. The railings (lead caulked into the stone) were crack repaired on site, then chemically stripped and needle gun cleaned prior to application of our marine specification paint system.
Whilst in our workshop we also replaced the gate’s broken locking mechanism. Finally, we primed and finish painted the gates and railing posts before returning them to site where we re-installed them.
The railing panels were restored on-site by removing many many layers of paint and corrosion using needle guns and similar hand tools before being primed and finish painted by hand using our high-quality paint system.
At the request of our client, we provided a new brass plaque for the gates.
