Private new build house in Hale, Altrincham

We were asked to design, manufacture and install a bespoke staircase balustrade in solid cast bronze to accept a timber handrail, for a private new build house in Hale, Altrincham. The balustrade design was proposed by the architect; It also needed to incorporate modern safety requirements to satisfy current building regulations. Our draughtsman worked closely with a structural engineer and the client’s architect, interior designer and joiner to produce a design and fixing method.

The interior designer provided photographs of desired finishes for the bronze balustrade in terms of textures and colour tones. We provided numerous bronze samples, finished with differing degrees of hand beaten texture and varying degrees of tone. These samples were issued to the interior designer to approve the desired texture and finish.

We produced a sample of a full size cast balustrade panel, complete with fixing method, for approval. We presented the sample panel at a design workshop on site, attended by the client, main contractor, architect and interior designer.

The balustrade panels and newel posts where cast from solid bronze. Each panel was individually marked out and all lap-joints carefully cut by hand in our workshop to suit adjacent panels.

The balustrade was installed by our own experienced team. The bronze tone finishes were touched up on site following installation and then protected with three coats of renaissance wax, burnished by hand.
