Tattenhall War Memorial - Bronze Plaque Initials Change
The Parish Clerk for Tattenhall Parish Council contacted us with an historic problem with their bronze war memorial; The initials honouring one of the soldiers had been incorrectly set out. ‘JENKINS.T.J.’ needed to be changed to ‘JENKINS.R.T.’
We carefully removed the original bronze plaque and returned it to our workshop where we media blast cleaned the plaque back to bare bronze then gently sanded flush the two incorrect initials ‘T. J.’ from Mr Jenkins’s name.
To ensure the type face and size was matched exactly we took mould lifts off two existing letters R & T from other names on the plaque and cast two new letters in bronze.
We then carefully fixed the two new letters by pinning and bonding them to the plaque before blending the finishes by hand and Bronze Metal Antique (BMA) toned the bronze plaque back to its formed glory before sealing it by hand applying two coats of renaissance wax.
The plaque was returned fully restored and with Mr Jenkins’s correct initials. We reinstated the plaque back on to Tattenhall War Memorial with new fixings.
