Trafford Centre - Restoration of Barton Square Fountain
The cast brass fountain and it’s sculptures were displaying significant corrosion as a result of poor maintenance, its position outside and the huge number of corroding coins that had been thrown into the fountain bowls contaminating the water system over the last 20+ years. Originally the brass sculptures had been lacquered for protection but this had failed throughout as a result of time, chemicals in the water and damage caused by impact from coins.
We thoroughly stripped back all the remaining lacquer and corrosion from all the brass and bronze work by hand using heritage approved renaissance cleaning products, before thoroughly washing down and polishing again to a bright finish.
Our team then repaired & improved a great many abrasions and casting defects identified by the client’s team, filling, deep cleaning and re-polishing where necessary.
Finally, we applied three coats of Incralac lacquer spray to protect the finish.
